11-year-old Mason Ramsey has been a busy boy lately. Fresh off his performance at the famed Coachella music and arts festival, Ramsey, otherwise known as the Walmart Yodel Boy, announced his intention to perform at the upcoming Stagecoach festival. After spending time entertaining festival-goers in the desert of Indio, California, Ramsey will be coming back for an encore yodelling gig going for another round of fun. Ramsey rose to internet stardom when he was caught yodelling Hank Williams’ first hit, “Homesick Blues, outside of an Illinois Walmart.
Ramsey has been in some pretty good company while taking the stage on the festival circuit. Although the two festivals are at opposite ends of the spectrum in musical genres, both Coachella and Stagecoach attract some of the biggest stars in the business. Coachella’s lineup featured Beyonce, The Weeknd, and Cardi B, while Stagecoach boasts Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Florida Georgia Line, and Keith Urban. Although Ramsey’s Coachella performance came as a surprise when the tyke waltzed out on the stage in the Sahara tent with 18-year-old Los Angeles-based producer Whethan, the Stagecoach performance was revealed in advance of the festival. The precocious Ramsey announced his latest performance via Twitter, capitalizing even further on his internet fame.
Like all viral sensations, the story of Ramsey spread like wildfire. The performance that sparked the love happened on March 24 in his hometown of Harrisburg, Illinois. Originally posted on YouTube, the video picked up steam, and followers, when it hit the Twitter circuit. Singing in the aisles of Wal-Mart to performing at arguably the biggest music festival in the nation in less than a month’s time is impressive, even for a bow-tie wearing crooner.
